"As for Stepney/ Poplar, it may be that he's referring to the Parish of Stepney, of which Poplar was a sub-division"

Literally nobody from Chadwell Heath would claim they were from Barking. Romford and Dagenham, possibly.

As for Stepney/ Poplar, it may be that he's referring to the Parish of Stepney, of which Poplar was a sub-division.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 3:31 Mon Dec 10
Re: The I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here thread
If you were, for instance, born and raised in and around Chadwell Heath, it would be entirely permissible to describe yourself as 'an Ilford boy', 'a Barking boy', 'a Dagenham boy' or 'a Romford boy'.

As JAFKD says, 'who gives a fuck?'.

Sorry his dad was Harry, who's dad was Billy, who's dad was Levi, who's dad was J Reuben.

All lived one side or the other of burdett road.

Gavros 3:22 Mon Dec 10
Re: The I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here thread
I have no idea why he says Stepney. As those in the know know, he was born and raised in Poplar. Even if he was living on the other side of Burdett road at some point, that's more Limehouse than Stepney. His dad was born in Poplar as was his dad (Billy) as was his dad (Levi) after his dad (J Reuben) had moved over east from Hampton in the mid-1800s.

` I was still living at home with my parents, in STEPNEY`

`“I suppose the logical place to watch football for a STEPNEY boy like me`

"Where did you go to school?"
"Sir Humphrey Gilbert School in STEPNEY, in the East End of London".

When Willoughby tells him that “it’s a delicacy in many places”, Redknapp is unimpressed.

“Not in STEPNEY it ain’t,” he says.

Redknapp recalls. "But I went to the University of the Street in STEPNEY and I had done him up like a kipper."

Keep banging the drum Gavvy....

Definitely originally from Poplar, my nan lived next door to his parents. As she got older she always commented when Redknapp was interviewed in the 90s, "ooooh don't he look well, not aged at all!" - she thought he was his dad.

Harry on GMB this morning on being asked about setting up a romance between Jamie and Emily Atack.

"In the jungle I thought, no chance. Then I see her this morning, I didn't recognise her, I had to ask who she was. I said to her you scrub up quite well"

There's a compliment there somewhere.

Noel Edmonds is said to have been the highest paid jungle rat with 600 hundred grand and Redknapp second highest with half a mill.

`I didn't go to the game — couldn't get a ticket — but I watched on TV. I was still living at home with my parents, in Stepney, and remember the streets being empty`.

“I suppose the logical place to watch football for a Stepney boy like me would be West Ham. But the excitement generated by the Double-winning side, and the push-and-run team 10 years previously, meant the support from the places I grew up in was always good.”
